The goal of Access to Care is to make access to mental health and substance abuse treatment available to those affected by Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma. Access to Care provides up to $2000 per person for mental health and substance abuse treatment and/or psychotropic medications.

Children’s Bureau provides a variety of services to children and their families. They are currently providing services for children who have experienced a traumatic event (i.e. Hurricane Katrina, having a loved one killed, witnessing a murder, domestic violence, etc.). Children’s Bureau provides these services for no charge.

Integrated Family Services provides services to children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral disorders. While working with the child, IFS engages other family members in order to create a more balanced system for their clients. IFS works with youth at their offices as well as at the client’s home and in the community.

Kingsley House provides services to children and families with the mission of “educating children, strengthening families, and building communities.” Kingsley house provides after school tutoring for youth ages 5-12, and tutoring and recreation for teens, as well as Saturday Respite, an all day daycare service on Saturdays for children of all ages, mobile medical care, individual and family counseling and Head Start programs.

Covenant House offers services and programs for homeless, runaway and at-risk youth ages 16-21. These services include counseling, shelter, food, clothing, health care, child care, education, job training and advocacy.

Boys and Girls Town provides Intervention and Assessment Centers as safe places for boys and girls in crisis including runaway, homeless and abused children. In addition it offers family services to assist families where the children are at risk of being placed outside the home. The Intervention Center for boys is located on Frenchmen Street. The girls’ location is in Gretna and can be reached by calling (504) 392-4501.
