Our Mission

Our mission is to provide high-quality, zealous, holistic, team-based legal representation to indigent youth in New Orleans and throughout the Louisiana juvenile justice system.

JRS is a nonprofit, public-interest law office that advocates holistically for indigent youth in the New Orleans juvenile justice system. The office is founded on the belief that the best way to help young people and their families is to solve the root problems that can drive youth into the justice system.

Each JRS client is represented by a team - a youth advocate, a social worker, an education specialist, an attorney, and an investigator. The team represents young people in delinquency and Families in Need of Services cases in juvenile court; helps families to navigate the school system to find the right fit for each child; advocates for special education services; connects clients with community-based services like trauma counseling and medication management; and arranges for youth and their families to receive benefits like housing and food stamps. This innovative, wrap-around advocacy changes lives, reduces recidivism, and improves public safety.
