Cheri Deatsch, Associate Director

Cheri earned her J.D. from Loyola University in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1995. She became a member of the Colorado Bar in 1995 and the Louisiana Bar in 1999.

Cheri has dedicated her professional career to indigent defense, beginning her career as a public defender in Denver, Colorado. In 1999, Cheri left the public defender’s office and opened her own law practice, accepting court appointments to represent those who had a conflict with the public defender’s office.

In addition to criminal defense, Cheri has also participated in numerous pro bono representations of protestors who were charged with crimes for exercising their First Amendment rights. She has also represented numerous individuals in civil rights lawsuits involving excessive use of force by law enforcement officers.

Since 1995, Cheri has spent nearly everyday in the courtrooms of Colorado, protecting the Constitutional rights of adults and juveniles charged with criminal offenses. In the aftermath of Katrina she made a decision to return to New Orleans, and joined Juvenile Regional Services in 2007 as a staff attorney.
